Pythagoras Theorem

Pythagoras lived about 500 years BC, and one thing has always puzzled me: while he found the time to sit around thinking about triangles/how to agonise youth thousands of years later when they have to work out what on earth he was talking about, the rest of the population of his era was running away from things that were likely to eat them. A more interesting question to put in a maths paper would be “how did Pythagoras not get eaten?” Just think about it, Michael Gove.
