We couldn’t put the tree up today because it would have involved a lot of furniture and bookshelf moving and we just couldn’t be bothered, but it is an absolutely lovely tree and the last of the ‘red labelled’ ones, as the man told us. Or at least, I presume it was a man because all I could see was his feet behind the tree as he held it up and then carried it. But oh well, it’s a nice tree and will probably fit in the living room and that’s good enough for us. The next thing to do is to get the decorations down from the loft. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but the roof isn’t one of those fancy ones with stairs or a ladder that drops down, oh no. Ours is a hollow space above our house that is home to a dirty great tub of water for the boiler or something that plumbers know about and the majority of things we used to have a need for but really don’t any more that we somehow managed to form a sentimental attachment to. Every time we want to go up there we have to get the ladder from the garage and carry it carefully through the front door, through the hall, up the stairs and then balance it so we can climb up into the loft. About as fun as it sounds, to be honest. Ah well, at least the tree will look pretty!
